Hello
I am writing to provide an update from the Broxtowe Borough Neighbourhood Policing Team and to share progress against our current policing priorities for the period April to June.
Area Priorities
1. Alcohol and Youth-Related Anti-Social Behaviour - Beeston Town Centre Burglars jailed, Jack Higgins and Iona Christos have been sentenced to three and four years’ imprisonment for targeting student accommodation in Beeston. CCTV footage captured Higgins making multiple unsuccessful attempts to leave one of the premises after committing an offence. For further details, please see the link below:
2. Drug Dealing and Anti-Social Behaviour - Eastwood South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) officers have been conducting targeted patrols in the area surrounding the footpath off South Street, Eastwood, following reports of drug-related activity. Through increased visible policing, officers have successfully deterred offending, engaged with local residents to provide reassurance, and offered advice on reporting concerns in relation to drug use and anti-social behaviour.
An investigation is underway after a man sustained facial injuries in a fight outside The Lady Chatterley pub, in Eastwood, following reports of an altercation. A couple of arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. For further details, please see the link below: Arrests after man injured in fight outside pub | Nottinghamshire Police
3. Vehicle Crime/ASB - Chilwell / Stapleford This has been identified as a new priority following concerns raised by both partners and the local community. Reported issues include motorcycle theft, traffic-related offences, and anti-social behaviour linked to bikes. The NPT is currently reviewing recent data to identify patterns and trends, including peak offending times and locations. Alongside this, officers are working with Broxtowe Borough Council to explore opportunities for joint operational activity. NPT officers have recently been trained to use a new tool to take action on overpowered e-bikes and e-scooters. The equipment will be able to test the top speed of e-bikes/scooters. If the e-bike/scooter fails to comply with the law, it will be seized. NPT will be running an operation soon to tackle this issue.
NPT officers returned a stolen motorbike that had been stolen, please see the link below:
Other News
Three Stolen Bikes Recovered Over Bank Holiday Over the bank holiday weekend, officers recovered three stolen bikes thanks to swift action, following a report from a member of the public regarding one of the vehicles. Our City West NPT colleagues who cover the Broxtowe Country Park area, attended and located three bikes, which were subsequently seized. Although the Country Park does not fall within the Broxtowe NPA, some reports of bike-related anti-social behaviour in the Nuthall area are believed to be linked, with riders travelling to and from the park. Further targeted operations are planned, with NPT working alongside the Off-Road Bike Team and Drone Team to continue tackling this issue and help keep our communities safe.
Op Wheelspin A speeding driver along the A52 near Bramcote has been jailed after causing a crash that left a woman requiring surgery. Following court proceedings, Rhys Courtney aged 22, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. This outcome reflects the seriousness of the offence and sends a clear message that dangerous driving will not be tolerated. We remain committed to keeping our roads safe and will continue to take robust action against those who put lives at risk. For further details, please see the link below which contains video footage:
ATM Thefts Felix and Christian Urcaciu have been convicted after using cash-trapping devices to steal money from ATM machines across the UK, including in the Chilwell and Bramcote areas. Victims attempting to withdraw cash believed the machines were faulty and, in many cases, contacted their banks for refunds. In reality, the cash had been diverted into a specially constructed metallic wedge device fitted over the dispenser. The offenders would then return later to retrieve the cash. Both men are due to be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on 26 June. For further details, please see the link below: Operation Sceptre NPT officers have been actively involved in the national knife crime week of action. Activity has included:
During patrols, we received positive feedback from members of the public regarding our presence and engagement.
Open Water Swimming Danger Advice Police have received reports of people entering the River Trent near the Weir Fields Recreation Ground, Beeston Rylands. Neighbourhood officers attended yesterday to speak with those involved and provided safety advice. The area will continue to be monitored over the coming days. As the weather becomes warmer, we want to remind everyone of the very real dangers of swimming in open water.
Reporting Incidents All incidents at point of call to the police control room are risk assessed according to the circumstances being reported. This helps identify threat and risk more appropriately and provides a more bespoke response and improved service delivery to individuals. Please advise residents on below reporting methods:
